Meet the shapes in your kit

Each profile gives you a different way to shape, hollow or refine your work.

  • Taper

    1/8″ × 7/8″

Follow contours, refine edges + reach tighter spaces.

  • Sphere

    3/8″ × 3/8″

Shape rounded recesses, inside curves + hollows.

  • Flame

    1/4″ × 1/2″

Blend flowing curves into narrow grooves + details.

  • Ball Nose

    1/4″ × 1/2″

Round edges + carve hollows with a curved bottom.

Shape references are not to scale. Head sizes are base diameter × length; the teeth make the finished head slightly larger.

Full product details

Establish the shape with four complementary Coarse-grade burrs for power carving. Use the Taper for contours and edges, the Sphere for hollows, and the Flame and Ball Nose for flowing curves and transitions. This woodcarving kit keeps the same grade across all four profiles so you can focus on the shape you need.

Made in the USA, the structured tungsten-carbide teeth are brazed to steel for controlled material removal. Carve with or across the grain, using light pressure as you approach the finished shape.

Mounting Guide

Kutzall burr shafts seated in rotary-tool collets
Match the shaft to your tool’s collet or chuck.
  1. Match your shaft size

Use a 1/8″ collet or compatible adjustable chuck on a suitable rotary tool, die grinder or flex-shaft handpiece. Hand drills and drill presses are not recommended.

  2. Seat the shaft securely

Insert at least half of the shaft into the collet or chuck. Secure it according to your power tool’s instructions.

  3. Use the recommended speed

Recommended operating range: 15,000–30,000 RPM. Both material-removal rate and control improve as speed increases toward the burr’s recommended operating range. Never exceed the lowest maximum speed rating in your setup. Use light pressure and let the tool do the work.

  4. Let it stop completely

Let your power tool stop completely before setting it down.

Caring for your Kutzall

Cleaning a Kutzall hand rasp with a wire brush
Brush away buildup

A few passes with a soft wire brush help clear material from between the teeth.

Using a torch to clear buildup from a Kutzall shaping wheel
Clear stubborn residue

For stubborn wood residue only, follow the torch-cleaning steps in our care guide. Let heated metal cool naturally before handling.

Protect the teeth

Kutzall’s tungsten-carbide teeth are securely brazed to the steel tool with a nickel alloy. Protect the teeth from impact against hard surfaces, especially while spinning. Let your power tool stop completely before setting it down.

Not for use on metals, ceramics or hard stone.

More on tool care

Let the tool cool before handling. Keep heat away from handles and other non-metal components.

    Great product!

I got these to help with a fireplace mantel that I'm carving for my home. They do a great job of removing the wood for the intricate portions of my design. I already have the similar set in the fine grit (which also work great) but I needed the coarse set. Worth every penny.

    Amazing!!

I wish I had bought these years ago. They are excellent and take little effort to carve a chunk of wood in no time. By far my favourite tool for woodcarving.

    Great burrs

It’s hard to go wrong with any Kutzall product! This kid included! The different burr shapes all have their use, and these bits can be used 24/7. Tough as nails.
