Details + dimensions

Grooves, reliefs + undercuts

The Kutzall 1/8″ Shaft Rotor Saw Burr has a wheel-shaped profile for power carving grooves, reliefs and undercuts. Its narrow edge makes it useful for defining lines, while the working surfaces allow controlled carving in multiple directions. Use it in woodcarving to hollow an area, add texture or develop details where a broader burr would leave a different shape.

The 1/8″ shaft fits a matching collet or compatible adjustable chuck on a small rotary tool. Match the head size to the space you want to carve, and check your power tool’s mounting and speed limits before use.

Mounting Guide

Kutzall burr shafts seated in rotary-tool collets
Match the shaft to your tool’s collet or chuck.
  1. Match your shaft size

Use a 1/8″ collet or compatible adjustable chuck on a suitable rotary tool, die grinder or flex-shaft handpiece. Hand drills and drill presses are not recommended.

  2. Seat the shaft securely

Insert at least half of the shaft into the collet or chuck. Secure it according to your power tool’s instructions.

  3. Use the recommended speed

Recommended operating range: 15,000–30,000 RPM. Both material-removal rate and control improve as speed increases toward the burr’s recommended operating range. Never exceed the lowest maximum speed rating in your setup. Use light pressure and let the tool do the work.

  4. Let it stop completely

Let your power tool stop completely before setting it down.

Caring for your Kutzall

Cleaning a Kutzall hand rasp with a wire brush
Brush away buildup

A few passes with a soft wire brush help clear material from between the teeth.

Using a torch to clear buildup from a Kutzall shaping wheel
Clear stubborn residue

A torch can remove stubborn buildup from the metal working surface. The tungsten-carbide teeth tolerate the heat.

Protect the teeth

Kutzall’s tungsten-carbide teeth are securely brazed to the steel tool with a nickel alloy. Protect the teeth from impact against hard surfaces, especially while spinning. Let your power tool stop completely before setting it down.

Not for use on metals, ceramics or hard stone.

More on tool care

Let the tool cool before handling. Keep heat away from handles and other non-metal components.

    So powerful!

I've been able to cut into Hickory, Bloodwood, and hard Maple with this (Extreme) burr without dulling or damaging it! Perfect for large scale stock removal or shaping of difficult hardwoods. Looking forward to trying it on African Blackwood soon.

I do recommend wearing gloves when using this one, a quick slip scratched my knuckles up bad

    Kutzall as bonsai carver

Huge fan, I had been looking for something similar to what used to be available for carving bonsai deadwood. These carvers fit that niche and then some!
